what is bump steer?
put simply bump steer is when your wheel attitude changes enough through suspension movement to affect steering when no change is made to the steering wheel itself. In other words, you hit a large bump with the left wheel, the left front suspension compresses and as a result causes your car to slightly change direction instead of continuing to track in exactly the same direction it was before you hit the bump.
Bump steer is a term that relates to suspension geometry. Basically the front tires slightly change direction upon suspension movement without the steering wheel moving.
Due to the geometry between the steering rack, front upright and the scrub radius of the suspension the front tires in fact may slightly steer when the suspension moves without any change in steering input.
