What is better...Fuel pressure, Ext Temp, or Air/Fuel Guage????
Hi ya all~~~
I'm trying to install 3 guages.... boost, water temp, and the other one is really hard to decide..... I'm thinking what is the better one for monitoring engine reliability?
Fuel Pressure guage???
Exhaust Temp guage???
or Air/Fuel ratio guage???
Can you guys tell me your experience with it?? and what is the install levels on those??? Are they a pain in the Arsss to install???? Sorry for all these questions but thanks!!~~~~

Fuel pressure isnt enough IMHO
I would go with the EXT temp gauge. Air/fuel gauges are ok, but I heard they get inacurate over time, this is why several major names in gauges dont sell them.
I have used only a boost and Ext gauge for a LONG time now, granted I have the PFC with commander.

if you search on oil temps, you will discover that oild temps tend to average 20-25 degrees over the water temp so its value is kinda redundant. its good to have, but not the first choice.
if you search on fuel pressure, you will discover that fuel pressure is nice to have as it helps diagnose potential fuel issues. That being said, it will only be different if there isa problem - which can either be a clogged fuel filter or a bad fuel pump. its good to have, but not the first or second choice.
if you search on air fuel ration gauges, you will find that most over the counter gauges are useless b/c they are narrow band. Wideband O2 gauges are accurate and useful to diagnose lean running conditions. Good choice, but its freakin expensive and isn't really made to run full time like a regular O2 sensore. More of a tuning tool. Again, probably not a first choice due to the fact that these things aren't really made to run all the time. Some one correct me if Im wrong. I understand the O2 sensor will crap out pretty quick when exposed to the extensive heat of the rotary exhaust. Search on it.
if you search on EGT gauges, you will find that it helps indirectly monitor exhaust gas temps which increase when the car runs lean. By using and EGT you can keep an eye on the health of your tuning in respect to whether its running rich/lean. It is a more accurate gauge of rich/lean conditions that a narrowband A/F gauge when combined with the water and boost gauges.
next time use the search button.

My fuel pressure gauge has saved me twice. (Fuel pump issues)
I have four gauges (3 came with the car) and I added a boost gauge. I'm considering tossing the Air/Fuel and adding the exhaust temp. The Air/Fuel gauge is useless in my opinion.

I See~~~~~ cool...
So most people on the forum has boost, water temp, and EGT???
Thats a good combo for most people??? I have a PFC as well be its a pain
to see so many info in such a small screen...

Air/Fuel ratio guage is crap, in fact its mega crap haha
Exhaust Temp guage is hard to read and will not give the same results (becuase of placement). also the resolution is not that great and will not give fast enought responses. it will tell you how you are doing in the long run though and will point out stuff like an injector becomming increasingly clogged or something like that
Fuel Pressure guage is good but by the time you see it drop during a boost run, youll already ahve blown your engine. it is a good diagnostic device though and you should have the eletrical type with a sender if mounting inside the cabin!
you might want to save the money and get a powerfc which will actually tell you quite a bit about your car (the peak hold functions are espeically useful) and you can also tune your car with it

the gauges dont go bad, the wideband sensors do. Any good manufacturer builds their equipment to tell you when the wideband is out of spec.
but if your talking about the cheap autometer things, then your probably right
