Question What AWG wire for harness extension?

Hey guys!

So im wanting to relocate my fuse boxes in the bay so i can have a cleaner look, but was wondering what is the wire size that i would need or SHOULD use for this?
I know a lot of people here has made new harness or moved stuff and i looked/searched and couldnt really find exact answers.

Do i need to go thicker for more resistance since itll have longer travel?

Most of the wires on the harness are 20awg and some 12awg right?

Also, where is the best /cheaper place to get colored wires?
My first thought is to use pretty much red/black and label all but if the price isnt bad, id rather try and match as much as possible.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hi Jose,

When I was fixing up my engine harness I used 18awg and 14awg. If I remember correctly some of the grounding wires we a bit thicker so I used 14 for those. The rest were 18awg. However I'm not sure what the thickness is for the wires that go to the fuse box.

I don't know if these guys are the cheapest, but they sell quality wires for automotive applications Welcome To Prowireusa

I recommend keeping the same gauge wire. Wurth USA sells wire in factory colors with tracers.

Sweet, thanks for the feedbacks!

So it won't make the current weaker if I just extend them with the same gauge? Like, heat up since its longer travel?
I'd like to just throw the fuse boxes and stuff all the way back to the trunk but that's probably pushing it lol.
