There is a part for a 99 spec airguide. Never knew what it was but since mazdacomp was having a 10% discount on parts I went ahead and ordered it. I actually thought it was suppose to be for the belly pan so when I got the part I was alittle confused on where it was actually suppose to go.

I think it goes on top of the 99 spec rebar. It helps "guide" the air from the front nose from escaping through the opening in the rebar. also the opening perfectly fits the opening for the intercooler duct (both stock and ASP). I'll post pics after I retake the front bumper off.

I spent a week cutting the ASP intercooler scoop to fit...then fabbed a aluminum guide to do basically this same damn thing
I could have saved some trouble if I would have ordered this earlier.

Actually.............. it's quite a valuable piece.

It fills the void between the rebar & the front support.

Without it not ALL the airflow will be routed to the radiator. Plus it only costs a whopping $20. Fab one out of aluminum?? Yea sure, if you have all afternoon & like the ghetto look.

In the photos he has rested it on his bumper. When installed the only way you can see it is through the opening for the radiator in the bumper (looking up)

Hopefully he also took advantage of the 99 spec oil cooler/brake ducts ($45 ea side). For extra credit you should also get the 99 spec radiator shroud ($98).
This completes the 99 bumper install as Mazda designed it.

Rmagic makes some fantastic fiberglass oil cooler ducts similar to the 93-95 that perfectly fit the 99 spec bumper ($250 pr)

I have seen my fair share of photos of cars with 99 bumpers & you can see daylight through all the openings. 1/2 *** install if you ask me.

People think it's a cheap mod when they can get the bumper skin for $500.
They use the 93-95 rebar & cut 1/2 of it away to fit the lights. Then cut & trim the radiator shroud to kinda fit the 99 spec bumper. Some even go as far as fit the 93-95 front lip to save a couple bucks.

If you do it right it's closer to $2k to $2.5k & that's just the front bumper. Add the rear spoiler & tail lights (mod or real) & you'll top $3.5k to $4k

I have done this mod & have all the above listed parts, so IM talking from experience. Take it for what's it worth.

I'm confused. Is this the piece that's part of the redesigned air intake that prevents hot air from being sucked back in? Can this be used on a US car without the 99+ front bumper?

HAHAHA! I did waste time and made a little ghetto duct out of aluminum. I almost tossed it because it is ghetto looking even with a layer of paint.

FWIW, I have the crooked willow oil coolers with the 99 spec ducts, 99 spec brake ducts, and if you mean the 99 spec underbody tray, then yes I completed the packaged.

and like Sled Driver said, it cost more to fill up my tank than to buy this piece.

Jconn, it fits the 99spec rebar, I don't think you need it for the stock front. I'll take a pic when i mount it this weekend.

it was $29.25 from Mazdacomp (see above screen capture) but they where having 10% off for the month of March.

You need these fasteners to attach the airguide. Mine were gone when they installed the 99 spec bumper. If your DIY you should be able to get them from your stock bumper. Part # BF67-50-033

Here is my cut ASP medium intercooler scoop pop riveted to the rebar. The airguide has a perfect gap to let the lip of the intercooler duct to come thru


Here is everything mounted. You can see how the lip of the intercooler duct nicely meets the scoop. Also, you can see the airguide with the openings on top to let some air in from the license plate area.

Just in case anybody was wondering...

The '99 spec airguide is EXACTLY the same as the stock '93-'95 airguide except it is missing the bottom part. So you could just cut the bottom part off of your original airguide and save yourself 30 bucks.

also a good idea to cut the '93-'95 air guides vertical slats off at top plate if you are using N-tech type shark mod. '99 under tray, brake ducts and lip can also be fit up to our older front bumper. improves airflow to rad and brakes
