That is a bit high. What are your mods? Driving in NYC traffic in high 80 degree heat my water temps did NOT get that high. I think I was at mid 90s or so IIRC.

Might want to start searching on other threads for water temp for more info. Might also be a good time to change your coolant and maybe "upgrade" to the FC thermosensor (search on thread from DaleClark).

What kind of setup are you running jason? what kind of radiator...and I/C...v-mount, front mount, stock mount...and what're you using to control your fans?

My impression is that when sitting in warm weather traffic you should hold steady at whatever temp your cooling fans are set to turn on. Stock, you will see 105 (221F). That was certainly the case for me before taking steps to keep temps down.

With a Miata thermoswitch now I haven't climbed over 95.

I usually run between 82C-88C in the winter. 87C-95C in the summer with the A/C off. If I turn on the A/C it can climb up to 99C and then I turn off the air. The highest temp I've hit was 106 coming through Palm Springs on the way to Sevenstock a couple of years ago. I just coasted down hill when I could to bring it back down to 99

Doesnt turning the A/C on trigger one of the fan relays and make them come on higher? I turn the A/C on when I'm at a stop on hot days and my temps come right down.

On a stock car, 221F is when the fans turn on at "low speed", 226F is "medium speed", and 230F is "high speed". I would consider 230F an upper limit, although you'll sometimes briefly see over that temperature when starting a heat-soaked car, that is just locally very hot coolant that takes a few seconds to circulate through. A healthy car shouldn't see more than 221F unless its pretty hot outside.
