weird idle problem
Hey ive typed a couple threads about my idle wondering from 1000 rpm to about 1700 rpm and having some bucking issues and i thought i would put one more thread. Your replys have been very helpful and ive been doing alot of research but there is one thing i cant find out. When im out driving around and come up to a stoplight my cars idle wonders like i stated above but when i turn on my lights it completley stops and has a steady idle at 1200 rpm. Now i know this sounds crazy but ive tested it 25 times now and it does it every time. If anyone can help that would be great, if not ill just drive with my lights on all the time. Thanks again

Warming the planet.
There are many things that can cause a fast idle. The most common are vacuum leaks, failed idle speed solenoid, maladjustment or someone has turned the idle up to compensate for a poor idle do to some other problem.
Assuming the idle is just out of adjustment, warm the car up, jump the ten and gnd terminal in the diagnostic connector, turn in the idle air screw under the intake elbow until the idle is at about 700 rpm without the fans running. Remove the jumper, and check the TPS voltages and adjust if its out of spec. the idle should settle to 600 to 700 with the lights off and about 850 to 900 with the lights on (or the heater blower above 3). If the idle is above 700 with the air screw all the way in, you’ll need to back off the Throttle adjusting screw on the front of the throttle body until the idle is low enough, but if you move the throttle adjusting screw you’ll need to recheck the TPS adjusment. If it is still too high, you more than likely have a vacuum leak.
