Weird clanking noise

Hi everybody, i have started experiencing this problem a couple weeks ago and i cant figure out what it's causing it; here is what happens: at idle it is possible to hear a very quiet clinking sound (only from the engine bay, if you stay in the car it's not possible to hear it), it appears to be coming from the right side of the engine block (to be clear, the side where the AC pump sits); if i rev up the noise becomes louder and more clanking till approx 2.5k rpms, then it ends (or at least it appears to be ending to me...it could be that the engine sound overtops it, but it doesnt seem too much the case to me)

any ideas on things i might need to check? i have tried to take a general look at everything but cant find something in the wrong place.

Thanks for your help!

i have removed the air pump...but it's anyway coming from the other side of the engine...tried to check for loose screws and also all those aluminium plates near the turbines and the brake lines...but everything seems ok and still i hear this noise when revving up

maybe one of the hoses popped off..which will lead to a vaccum leak. check clutch, also apex seal?

Had a very similar noise. Sounded like I left a tool on top of the engine and would clank until I revved to higher rpms. Turns out the E-clip holding the arm from the pre-spool actuator fell off. The rod came free from the the pin and was just tapping the side of the turbos. Sounded just like what you discribed. This one is hard to see as there is a heat-shield covering it up. Good luck.

Hi Steve, that's a good advice; it really fills like the noise one of those clips could make if loose and hitting some metal part...i was searching for something like that but was not able to locate it at home so i will need to stop by the garage on the weekend to check it out from a better point of view
