Water Treatment

I was thinking about doing the water treatment (not water injection) since I usually baby my car at low rpm's (i know I shouldn't now) and how carbon desposits form when not reved high. So should I be worried about a chunk of carbon coming off while cleaning and damaging anything. Also, does anyone have a writeup on how-to perform. I saw RotaryRessurections write-up but its not that specific. Doesnt mention about how much water should be injected at one time. Should there be a time interval. Perform on a hot or cold motor. Is the Manifold nipple ok to put water through.

IMO, unless you already started doing this from the time your engine first started running, it's not going to be much help. Once that carbon forms on the rotors, it really take some work to get it off (and the water trick isn't going to do it).

However, it might free up minor carbon but that would probably also be cleaned out with a good WOT run.

You can use a nipple on the UIM near the brake booster connection.

Well I do know if the previous owner ran the car hard or not. I got the car at 36,000 miles. So how knows how much carbon is there. I have been doing WOT runs every much to check for any boost leaks. Can't I use the nipple that everyone uses for the boost gauge.

Yes, that is "a nipple near the brake booster connection on the UIM".

So is there any harm in doing it if I do have moderate to large amount of carbon. What are the chances I do have that much.

There is no harm. There just isn't that much benefit. Once you try to clean some of the engine internals manually, you'll see that the "water treatment" really isn't going to do much.

I'm curious why you dont' think it will work.

I'm not saying I have evidence it will work, but water under high pressure and temperature can do some pretty impressive stuff.

The carbon is already hardened on by the high temps the engine produces. Unless you can get something signifigantly hotter, it's just not going to do much good without some kind of real solvent.

Wont that cause excess smoke. Every time I see a car that smokes I think "poor bastard cant fix his car"
