Water leaking into car, and more

Just got my Rx7 in last week from L A Motorcars. VR 94 R2. Looks like it was repainted but I knew that. In fact it is one of the better resprays I've seen. Engine is smooth, turbo's spool up well, no smoke, and tranny shifts nicely.

Now for the bad parts:

1. Water, a ton of it underneath the passenger seat and some in the spare tire well. I checked the A/C drain and it looked loose but don't really remember if it was inside the firewall. NE way, it is secured and I'm in the process of drying out the carpeting. As for the spare tire well, there was some water but can't figure out how it could possibly have gotten there. I don't really know where the drains are for this car but I'm going to put the car on the lift this weekend to see. The seal for the hatch looks satisfactory so It might be something else.

2. Bumper hood gap on passenger side only. Car was probably in a small front end accident (which is why it has a '99 spec fascia + respray but don't see any signs frame damage). I'm going to try to more the passenger fender back a couple of millimeters to see if that works.

3. While looking under the car I found a piece of metal with a spring loaded "nail through it. The "nail" was attached to some wiring but that's all I can tell without lifting the car. I might be able to take pictures tonight but all I can say is I was able to reach it while underneath the driver's side door area. It was haging on only a few "threads of the wire" and fell off. At least it didn't happen while driving as it may or may not be an important part. On the "head" of the nail there are initials "NK" if that means anything.

After a week of owning it, the RX7 seems like a great car but as I'm also learning, there are quite a few issues (or nuances) that I have to deal with. If anyone can help me or ideas before I work on it this weekend, it would be greatly appreciated.

The water under the passenger seat is probably from the A/C drain. Make sure the hose goes out into the engine compartment. As for the spare well, do you have a wing on the hatch? The holes the wings are mounted through can easily leak, as the stock "seal" for them is just tape. If this is the problem, remove wing and use clear silicone rubber to seal before reattatching.

The spring loaded nail sounds like a hood switch for an alarm system - not a stock part.

Thanks David. Makes a lot of sense as I found a random box wired into the driver's footwell. No name but I ran the fcc id and found it to be some el cheapo alarm system that was worth 60 and was halfassed torn out before the car was sent. Still have the alarm horn in there with wires cut off.

There is play on most of the body parts..just loosen the bolts/nuts and move them around for better position.

The water in the trunk is most likely from opening the hatch after rain/wash. Especially if water is beaded on the hatch, opening it causes it to sheet straight onto the jack and lug wrench covers.

The water sheeting thing is a possibility but I might have to side with David after taking the spoiler off the car for a number of reasons. The first being that the rubber tape "seal" was painted over therefore loosing it's ability to seal in the first place. Second, there was quite a bit of water that drained out of the spoiler when I turned it to its side. Third, I have never opened the hatch when it was raining (though the previous owner probably has so it is a possiblity but there was just too much water in there.

Hopefully the silicon sealant I applied will prevent any leaks. I'm going to test it out using a pressure hose at one of those coin-op car washes.

Again thanks for the help.
