Water hose to block removal

Does anyone know how to remove the water hose connection that enters the block immediately below the oil pressure switch on the rear left hand side of the block. It has a strange looking connector that I don't want to break.

Thanks Jim

I looked in my manual and it didn't say anything about it I see the metal expandable ring on the hose have you thought about trying to slip that back and pull the hose off? What is the purpose of doing this? are you removing the engine?

I just pulled the hose off the plastic adapter... I know that's not the "right" way to do it but it works.

Brian, what about that higher 5th gear you were talking about last week. Is it special made or from another application?

Heh, not to totally change the direction of the thread... but...

Stock 3rd gen : 0.719 : 1 ratio
option A : 0.762 : 1 ratio
option B : 0.806 : 1 raio

Those are the options I know about that are direct "drop in" replacements. I went with the 0.806:1 which is out of a "Bathurst" model RX-7 in Japan. I plan on reassembling the trans today

Part numbers which may help you with some prices that I paid:

counter fifth r50417308 -- 87
fifth r50417610a -- 150
R501-17-613 Ring, Retaining, 5th gear -- ??
5th synchronizer gear W501 17 725c -- 19
shift select spindle, with a stiffer spring R503 17 550 -- 34

Re: Water hose to block removal

Hi Jim. That black plastic piece is simply an adapter. If were to take it off and look inside, you would see there are two black silicon O-rings inside of it that seal against the large metal nipple coming out of the engine. I believe it is held in place by a plastic tab on each side. So is I'm not mistaken, one you slide it one, it's a beyatch to take off. So if you can, I would just try to slide the hose clamp further down the hose, obviously so it's not gripping the plastic piece, and then try to seperate the hose from the plastic adapter. That's probably gonna be a heck of a lot easier. I'll ask my buddy at Mazdatrix on Monday (if you're still needing the answer by then) how he usually does it.
