Wastegate solenoid.

Hello.

Have been trying to troubleshoot a 10 8 8 boost pattern for sometime now. Have today T'd my boost gauge into the line between the wastegate actuator and the wastegate solenoid.

During test drive the gauge remained at 0 psi until around the 3000rpm at which point the gauge pulsed rapidly at around 0 to 0.5 psi. This pulsing continues unchanged all the time the car is on boost including beyond transition at 4500rpm. Is this as it should be?

Cheers.
Tim.

Sound OK to me but, I am not an expert when it comes to boost problems. Seems like the pulsing would be the normal reaction for when the wastegate solenoid cycles on-off in regulating the boost pressure. The result would be no pressure in the boost gauge when the solenoid is picked up and venting the boost pressure and pressure as the solenoid shuts closed.

I beleive you mean 0.5 bar boost (8psi)?

and yes like AXR6 said,, sounds like the actuator solenoid cycling which would be correct you should get boost fluctuating on and off rapidly to control the overall boost pressure.

a 10-8-8 sounds to me like a tiny air leak maybe in the secondary turbo set up (thats the rear turbo Y pipe),, maybe the gasket to the turbo isnt sealing very well,,,, or maybe the secondary turbo air bypass valve is leaking ever so slightly.
