Wastegate and electronic boost controller?

If using a electronic boost controller hooked up to the waste gate, does it matter what spring is in it. Do you have to take the spring out?

How does the spring work with the boost controller?

The stock spring remains. The boost controller typically changes the boost seen by the stock wastegate actuator.
