Question wastegate and blow of valve.

i want to know whats the difference or is there a difference im sorry if this is a newbie question. just here to learn. i know the Wastegate is on the turbo and it opens when there is too much exhaust going to the turbine. so it doesnt spin way to much. but i thought the BOV did the same thing. again sorry for this question.

BOV is between the compressor and the engine. It spills excess pressure back into the atmosphere or back into the airbox for stock BOV set up. Wastegate is between the exhaust manifold and the turbine. It spills excess pressure directly through the exhaust.
