and if you're in the far left lane? that's not always an option man, what happens when you're pulling out in front of oncoming traffic or something?

for the record, i used heat shrink/solder as well

Exactly my concern. I don't know how many of you have driven on the Southern California freeways, but good luck getting over/coasting to the shoulder.

The main thing that is scaring me off in installing mine is definitely pulling out into traffic and having the potential of failing/cutting out. That is way too big of a risk for me.

In addition wouldnt your steering lock up? I had a turbo timer shut my car off one time when I was driving down the road and it locked up my stearing wheel will I turned the key....that was some scarey **** considering I was coming up on a turn at about 70mph when it happened.

It wouldn't LOCK your steering unless you pulled your key out, which would be dumb.

If your turbo timer shut the car off with the key in the ignition, it was wired wrong in the first place, so...

Damn that would be some scary sH*+...

The steering wheel will not lock up as long as the key is in and turned to ignition. Once you do turn the key to the insert position then it will.

yeah, the insinuation that it is OKAY for a component to fail while you are driving is ridiculous, but that is the same guy who is selling his RX-7 for a mustang

I wanted to bring this thread up a little and hopefully have people post their set-ups.

Power FC, stock coils and ingintor, 3 locations for mounting one in cabin, fused connection, shut off but never under throttle only at a stop light or in traffic.

Neil

Please everyone chime in who has it working or not.

pfc...stock coils...mounted in battery location on ducting for IC.

the car will stall out now even when it isnt hot. Mine seemed to get progressively worse with time. it just dies..suddenly and without warning. I actually thought I fixed it (ground issue)...but nope...two minutes later it died.

the unit does get very very hot in the battery location due to the fans blowing heat up there. but i imagine any place under the hood would get smoking hot during normal fun driving time.

who has had luck getting the units replaced?

mine has 400-600 miles on it and that is IT.

Im going to switch it back to stock and see how it goes.

We have installed the XS box on a couple of cars and so far they have worked well. No ignition breakup up to 15lbs of boost. Another nice thing is they are very easy to install, very little wiring.

Just to bring this up a bit with another update. I've had mine in for about 400+ miles now. It's installed next to the stock ignition amp. No issues what so ever. I've posted in the AEM forum trying to see if they can say one way or another if this was a bad batch or something to that effect. We'll see how that turns out.

I am told that the problem is solved....and that the new units will not have this problem. They are replacing mine as we speak. Car should be done tomorrow or monday I assume.

Please note when you purchased yours so we can see if there were certain dates the bad batch went out and stopped going in.

failed unit installed in jan/feb 04 if my late night memory is correct. 500 miles or so with then total failure.

new unit replaced sept 04.

Well, seems that I've spoken too soon. It's cut out 3 times in the lsat 2 days. I'm going to get the data logger going. I'm curious to know if there are certain conditions that cause this. It's only happened on deceleration, twice when my revs were pretty low. I'll have to get the production date of it.

Mines cut out in normal 50mph driving, and backing up running low rev, they just got out whenever, my car is idling better now that i took the box off and am running my stock one.

david garfinkle is running an accel coil on the leading and two jacobs coils on the trailing. his car runs great, but we dont know if the aem box is even doing anything. . . they knew his setup. . . maybe they just bypassed the whole thing internally, who knows. is there any other way to tell if its working? i think his coils might mask the fact that it may not be. . . though it hasnt stalled in some time. . . . personally, i think its worthless!!!! go with the msd dis-4 or something. hahahaha.

I just tuned a car that had the XS on it. It has a ported motor / T-78 and runs well at 15lbs of boost.

I'm at 15 now with stock ignition. Was looking at alternatives to 16 and beyond. What boost have folks tuned their HKS TP up to?
