walbro or nipodenso?

hey guys im about to buy a new fuel pump but havnt decide which one walbro or nipodenso. Ive been told that intanks fuel pumps can hold up to 400whp more than that inline fuel pump is needed. 400 whp is my goal at this time im trying to find out which 1 would perform better. what ya think?

what is special about the RP pump - how do they increase performance over a regular denso pump?

I don't doubt it flows more just wondering how they got there. Its not like RP actually makes the pump.

go with the Denso you wont regret it. as Rich pointed out that pump may be better suited to your needs its always better to be able to take fuel out of a map than pushing the injectors to their max duty.

sorry to try to make a sale but it seems relative considering the topic. I have two rp competition fuel pumps (nippon denso) supra pumps that I'm selling as well as a bracket system and all the plumbing. pretty much a drop in system for around 600whp

I run a single supra tt pump (the nippon denso on rx7store) and it works great for my needs (over 400 whp). It flows better than the walbro imho.

Supra pump here... More than enough fuel for the power I'm currently making.

I had a Walbro before and had no issues. However, when I was building my car I was talking to my tuner and he totally discouraged the use of a Walbro. He's been in the game for 20+ years and talked about how much they failed.

Can you prove they're the RP Competition? I just got off the phone with them (RP) and unfortunately there is currently no way to differentiate between the standard Supra TT nippondenso pump and the uprated Competition pump. Theyre looking into a method to identify the Comp pump as such.

A lot of this comes down to cheap made in china replica walbros which had a high failure rate. One thing I've never liked about walbros, whether authentic or not..... they're damn tiny. I like me a big beefy fuel pump

They're kinda noisy, but I've not seen anybody mention the Bosch 044 yet. That should certainly handle the target of 400whp (ish).

No need for a Bosch 044 at that power level, unless room to grow in the future is a requirement. For a flat 400 rwhp, drop in Supra tt pump and off ya go

FWIW the Nissan Denso pump run in the R33 and R34 Skylines is also an option.
I ran a single Supra TT pump for a long time. I now run dual supra pumps.

I thought about it but guess I just thought I would offer my advice on the only two pumps asked about. And the denso should cover OP's needs. Though I have heard the Bosch is a work-horse and a great pump. I have thought about picking one up but it takes a bit of work to get it in there properly from what I am told. The denso pump installs in about 20min.

True, but if the OP wanted I guess the price difference is non-existent with the added headroom a plus. Just the install challenges and it is a bit overkill for 400hp just like you said.


OP - two more points of interest. No matter what pump you go with, look into using high pressure fuel injection line to connect the top of the pump to the feed line using clamps. It will create a more reliable fuel reliable/bullet proof fuel delivery to the feed lines. Also, you should (if you have not done so already) reference the fuel pump rewire that can be easily found in this section of the forum.

If you have the money do the Denso over the Walbro. I have seen to many walbros fail and they are louder than the denso.
044 is a great pump but overkill for just 400HP.

NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOO!!!!

Do NOT use fuel injection line. You MUST use high pressure hose suitable for *SUBMERSION* in fuel. The outer jacket of regular high pressure fuel hose will deteriorate, swell, and fail very quickly resulting in low to no fuel pressure and kablammo...no engine.

Is it bad to run an upgraded fuel pump on an otherwise stock fuel system? I have thought about installing the RP pump for safety and for future use but I am not sure how the fuel system works and if it can bypass all the extra fuel back to the tank without issue.

looks like the bracket is spoken for but I have two fuel pumps still for sale one is brand new just out of the box and the other has about 2k miles on it all with shell 93 octane. If someone is interested just pm me so we dont **** of the mods by dealing in this thread.

The more your fuel that your pump pushes the more stable the fuel pressure. When the pressure drops off at higher rpm's under load the pump is unable to supply enough fuel to keep the lines pressureized. as far as the factory configuration fd's have a pump that has variable current based on the fuel pressure needed. most people just install a more powerful pump/s and run them at 100% all the time to ensure the fuel pressure is always high enough despite the injector's try to leak all of the fuel out of the lines.
