Walbro Installed, have questions

I just installed a walbro fuel pump and I have a few questions. I thought the install was straight forward, but ran into a problem. There is a small plastic peice that the nipple of the fuel pump sits in, well I broke this so I just removed it. Is this a big deal? What does this do? I just used the stock oring and pushed the fuel pump up there. I modified the stock bracket to hold the pump secure.

Second question: Are there any downsides to running the pump at 12 volts? I am going to modify the relay to run it constant, are there any problems with this?

Thanks

The nipple keeps the pickup filter in place (if it's the nipple I'm thinking of).. Is the filter secure and not going to fall off the bottom of the pump? I've seen people run without them, but I'd imagine you could ingest crap from your tank and seize your pump..

No downsides to run the pump @ 12V. This is common among users as the pump doesn't like running @ 6V/12V. I run 2 of them @ 12V with no problems.
