hmm that kinda sucks, I have $20k to spend on a car, seen alotta good ones, but they are on the east coast. I would be willing to pick up his car only for the fact that everyone thinks that it is so great and have seen it, so it lends some credibility to it.
BTW I missed out on the biggest deal I have ever seen on a FD =(. It was in the for sale section, was outta town and didn't have internet access, under the title Anemiya FD

Mildly modded low mileage FDs go for $20K. If you want more, mildly modded low mileage CYMs go for $20K. Better?

I see that Gordon's car is on eBay as well.

I knew that he sold his car last year and bought a Porsche but to see it on eBay along with Wael's is just too coincidental. I think everyone is selling their RX7's and moving on. Maybe I should get off my *** and put my car together and put it up on eBay and then buy a REAL car.

I don't think we've heard the last of Gordon. In recent years his job has required a lot more of his attention. He has told me repeatedly that when things slow down he plans on buying a chassis and building a 3 or 4 rotor. He has also said that his FD was a better highway car than the 911T.
It's normal for cars to turn over. Most of the sales I'm aware of have been due to extrinsic factors and not a loss of interest in the car itself.

There are probably at least 2 different buyers of an FD. Two in particular seem to stand out for me: (1) street with lots of hp or modification and (2) partial or full time road & track car with modifications.
Individuals 30+ in age (semi arbitrary number) that have disposable income will tend to move away from the FD if they fall into the first group I mentioned. At some point you realize that for street driving 300 rwhp and reliability with some sportiness is all you really need on the street to have fun. The FD can be a lot to maintain and not the most reliable. At 30+ yrs of age, who has time to deal with that? It's competing with more important things like family (just an example).
Now those in group two probably don't sell their cars as easily. One, they might have a nice daily driver and two they have realized after learning how to drive on a track correctly that an FD is STILL VERY hard to beat. You can have the best time with a $15-20K toy and not worry too much about the daily driver hassles because it's not your primary mode of transportation. There have been two recent exceptions to this (I believe it was B. Barber and someone with a forum name FOKO), but it is my understanding that they are heading toward competitive racing, which explains the need to sell their FDs.
So it's not so sad just a logical progression.

As for a Porsche, I used to be (and still am) one of the *biggest* Porsche fans, but you know what surprised me? The more ppl I've talked to who have actually worked on both RX7s and Porsches (specifically the Porsche 911 Turbo) have told me KEEP YOUR CAR. its a better car, on many levels, which surprised me, given there's like a $100K difference in the two cars, and I always thought German engineering is the best it gets...(don't forget, Wankel was German haha)
Besides, I can't name a single car you can get as much satisfaction out of like the FD, on many levels, only one of which is beating a $120K car after only having paid 10% - 20% of that

Only problem is you mod a FD with 50K in parts and decide to sell, people only want to pay 18K for it.. Never understood that

A used 911 Turbo will sell around $90K - $100K...that's a $50K hit
So i think you STILL come out on top in that sense...

I do believe though that the 911 turbo historically has had good resale, but its not as good as the example used about because a 10 year old 911 turbo doesn't sell for $90k as we all know, they sell for about $45k or there abouts so that means it retains 40% (new it was about $110 or so), so its not far off the rx-7 used in the example above.
cheers
