VIS Carbon Fiber Hatch - Pics

I finally got my vis cf hatch from the group buy, here are some initial pics, I will post more as I get it installed.

Here is how I had to get it to the speedshop where my track car is, dont try this at home kids :-)

Shot of the hatch being test fitted. Overall fitment was good.

You can see in this photo that there is a bit of vertical gap here, so I will probably end up using small hood pins to keep both sides of the middle area down tight to the car.

You can see in these last 2 pics that the hatch could have used a bit more material in the back to mate better with the rear tail light parts.

Now for weights:

- the lexan came to 12 lbs
- the cf hatch came to 14 lbs

total = 26 lbs

my old stock hatch/glass came to 53 lbs (I dunno where this 70 or 80 lbs number comes from on the other threads I read?)

what I do know is that the stock hatch/glass combo is rediculous to left or move, its so dam heavy and cumbersom that there was multiple times where I could have lost a limb or been killed trying to remove it :-)

the cf hatch can be held up with one finger.

I am glad you finally got your hatch.

But pray do tell, for the love of god, how you installed the lexan onto the hatch.

Looks great damian. You're making this car look great and perform greater. I'm anxious to see what the car will look like when you're finally done with it. Great job and good luck.

I'm kinda surprised at the fitment, could be a little longer in the rear and the fact it sits up high on the sides. For track purposes, no biggie, but for a daily driver, I'd bet damian's underdeveloped brake ducts that it whistles when going over 60 mph.

I don't have much of an issue with gap, it's hard to see with the wing on, but I think it fits rather nicely and once primed and painted should look pretty nice.

David,

Does yours "stand up" on the sides? Like you can slide the tip of your pinky underneath it like it looks like you might be able to with Damian's? Maybe they waited so long to ship Damian's that it shrunk in the warehouse

27 lbs is significant, but not a huge savings.... I can't imagine it would be more than 10-15 lbs if you were to use a glass rear window.

It's too bad about that fitment... fine for a track machine, but for a street car, i'd want a little better tollerances.

The fit is pretty much right on, there is a little gap, not as much as Damían's though. I did have to adjust it, the extra weight of the wing helped, I'm still waiting for my Lexan however before it's completely done.
