Viper Owner + Car Alarm = A good night.

After a long day at work, and an even longer drive home in the new 98 geo metro daily driver, it was time for me to fire up the seven.

I wanted to make some copies of a picture to put in the mail for a friend. As I was leaving the local Kinko's, and really sharp looking red, 2002 Viper pulls up about 10 spots away from me. (We both are parking a good ways from the front of the building.) He is sitting there staring at the FD, so I finally just smile and give him the "thumbs up." He responds with the same, and next thing I know, he hops out of his car and starts walking over to my car.

"Is that a 96? Those things are so rare!" Says the Viper Owner.

"No, actually it's a 93, they stopped US production in 95. Not too many of these around..."

He goes into this big story about how he test drove a "96" at a local dealership a few years ago, and really loved the car. He said that every time he sees one on the road he's impressed. "They are so rare" he kept saying. His wife was getting annoyed that he was talking to me for so long, so she comes out of the car, and he just hands her a $50.00 bill and she walks inside to the coffee shop, it was hilarious, the whole time he didn't take his eyes off of my car.

Anyways, long story short, we exchanged compliments and ended with a handshake. Nothing but respect from the aged Viper driver.

----

About an hour later, I was leaving a parking lot and I got another surprise. When I turned my key to unlock my door, the door opened, but all of the sudden my horn started blasting, head lights were pop'n up one at a time, and the flashers were going crazy. I thought to myself... "Wtf, the stock alarm is making its first appearance here!”

I sat there for about 2 mins trying everything to get the alarm to shut off, and finally just ended up popping the hood and yanking the - on the battery. Luckily for me the lead gave way w/o any tools. I was parked right next to an outside patio at a bar, and when I killed the battery everybody outside started to applaud. It's nice to know that if I would have actually been stealing the car, I would not have faced resistance, but rather applause. Definitely a commentary about how much people hate car alarms.

Anyways, I did search, but was unable to find out how to turn off the alarm w/o pulling the battery or disconnecting the wire below the "open hood" latch. Is there a way to shut it off with the key?

Thank you guys, and next time you see a Viper driver, he may secretly wish he owned an FD and turn out to be a good guy! Give em the thumbs up for me!

to shut if off with the key just put it in the keyhole of the door and turn it like you were unlocking the car

to disable alarm either ground the wire on the hood latch or on the driver side kick panel unplug the 8 pin plug and the 20 pin right underneath it.

lol happened to me once in front of my house. Before that and ever since it never goes off. Kinda sad really. LOL maybe the Viper guy thought it was an old Viper. Good story though.

my car you can only disarm the alarm by unlocking to passenger side door the driver's side disarm doesn't work but i just bought a viper system so that wont be the case in a week or two.
