VIN Option Decoder...?

I swear I just saw this on the forums a couple days ago - but now I can't find it.

I searched, I google'd - I was able to find out how to "decode" a VIN and identify year, serial number, etc... but that's not what I'm after.

I'm looking for a "paste your VIN" and it spit out options, vehicle info, etc.

Am I losing it? Or was it a figment of my imagination?

it only works if you have Mazda's database, briefly.

if the vin is JM1FD33120P0203810

J = japan
M1 = Mazda, in europe they use MZ
FD33 = FD, generally 33 is a coupe, 35 is a convertible
1= in the FD's case this lists the passive safety device, 93's are a 1, and 94, 95 are a 2
0 = check digit, there is some equation that comes up with a 0-9 or x number here, so you can't fake a vin
P = 1993 model year. 94 is R and 95 is S
0 = assembly plant. 0 is hiroshima, where all the Rx7's were built, 1 is hofu, 5 was flat rock etc
03810 = chassis #. there are a couple of oddities, as north america, japan, and europe all use different vin series, they all start at 1, so there may be a #03810 in Europe, and another in Japan

if you have a Japanese market car they stick with the old style vin, which gives you the same info.

FD3S-203810.

this one is simple, FD3S = FD3S.
2 = version. 100001 is 10/91-6/93, 200001 is 7/93-6/94, 300001 is 7/94-11/95, 400001 is 12/95-11/98, 500001 is 12/98-8/2000 and 600001 is 9/2000- to the end

and then the 03810 is the chassis #

as you can see it doesn't give you color, or option package

That's what I was looking for - thanks.

Not as much info as I remembered though.
