Didnt know where to post this but a couple of people wanted some pics of the installation so today i did it and took a couple of pics. Its for an FD so i figure its ok to post here? If not, please move to appropiate section. Thanks.
First you have to remove your dome light and find the 12V source from the incoming harness.
There were 3 wires, i tapped the blue/red (pinkish) colored wire only because thats where i saw 12V.
The kit will supply the tap as well.
I didnt know where to ground the wire so i used the sun visor screw holes. Make sure you scrape any paint around the hole otherwise it wont make a good connection.
Here is the finished product.
Here is how i rate the overall product.
Difficulty: 1/5
Cosmetics: 1/5
Cost: 1/5
Basically im not too fond of this kit. If i got to do it over again, i would get a more modern rear view mirror with some sort of radar detector built in for a more cleaner look. Sure its more expensive but its well worth it.
This kit makes the V1 sit really low, almost like its in mid air which can distract you while driving. If anything, i should have left it on the windshield. I guess its because on FD's the rearview mirror is mounted low to begin with (or so mine was).
If you guys decide to get this kit, a couple of things to watch out for for a more faster more smooth installation.
It will come with 3 rubber strips, they are used as bushings in case you have a skinny rearview mirror neck. I used 2 rubber strips which makes it a tight fit. It took me nearly 20 minutes to take off the mount and install the 2nd strip and install it again. Those allen screws are a pain to get to. So use 2.
You might have to bend the angled bracket upwards otherwise the V1 will point down too much. Its made to bend so its ok to bend it.
pretty sweet, thats how i wired mine up in the 8.. are u using the suction cup thingy they provide or is that an aftermarket holder that mounts to the mirror? (cant tell its placed nice and tucked away!)

The kit comes with the holder so you can throw away that suction cup thingy. I didnt buy the wire strips that mounts to the windshield for a more cleaner look. I dont mind the single wire hanging there. Or maybe ill get to it later on, it didnt come with the kit though.
Thats what it looks like from a side view.
You can still unplug the detector and take it down in the event you leave the car outside overnight, correct?
Yes sir, just un plug the phone jack type wire and simply take off the detector off its mount, the original mount is a slider, you slide the detector on and off.
Since this is an old post with pics missing I'm throwing up my recent V1 hardwire install for future knowledge seekers.
Originally I was going to wire it into my sunroof harness but after playing with the headliner a bit was worried about sags, ripping something etc so I ran the wire down along the driver's side A-pillar. I used the factory ACC power inlet for the fused line that came with the hardwire kit (comes with the V1) and ground on a chassis nut in the vicinity. The wires were too long so I did take out a few inches here and there. I didn't cut the RJ45; just folded the extra neatly and tucked. The hardwire plug I velcroed onto one of the cpus for a clean out of the way finish. It works perfectly.
ACC power tap. Trimmed V1 spade protector for a tight fit. Trimmed down power and grounds. Completed wiring install. It's alive. Low enough from the light tint strip IMO. Exterior shot.
