Urgent help needed about FD clutch
I'm pretty sure that either the slave cylinder rod is too short or my throw out bearing isn't locking completely to the clutch pressure plate (it made the one "click" but still can be slid in & out just about 1/2" - 1" from looking at the access window).
can someone let me know what to do here? what's the best way to lock the throwout bearing to the pressure plate? or is there any slave cylinder that has shorter rod? i wrapped the steel wire around the fork then pulled as hard as i can--still didn't lock the 2nd time. i also tried to jam it by pushing it with a huge screw driver from the access window. does it normally still slide in and out about 1/2" after the first click? its' definitely locked in but i feel like it's still loose.

clutch pedal goes to the floor without resistance. but if i try to hold the slave rod with my hands, it definitely works with good pressure... probably not the best way to do this but system should hold fluid. slave and master are both new.
i should also add, this is 20b series D motor and clutch is exedy twin plate. do i need special slave cylinder for 20b? it seems like the tip of the clutch fork is too far back--as far back as the full length of the slave clutch cylinder rod.

Not sure if I follow. Is the slave installed and everything put back together? If so when you push the clutch in I assume you're saying the slave is actuating/moving toward the clutch fork but the clutch fork isn't tight against the slave rod so there's lots of play in it and it's not actuating the clutch so the clutch pedal is soft because there's no resistance because the throw out bearing isn't sitting far enough forward and consequently pulling the cluth fork far enough back against the slave rod. Sorry for the run on but it's important that folks know exactly what you're saying.

flynn, that's exactly what i think. i thought maybe it's because my twin plate is thicker than the stock clutch the locking position wouldn't allow the clutch fork to be pulled against the slave cylinder rod sufficiently. so everything's working, it's just that slave rod seems a bit short or that the tip of the clutch fork isn't pulled back enough. i realized this isn't a common problem...
i was thinking maybe just make a thinner adapter steel plate between the slave & the bell housing... but what makes no sense to me is how nobody here has the same issues with the twin even triple plates..
any help is appreciated.
car's rx8 and tranny tunnel's been banged out with hammer to just clear the tranny, so it's almost impossible to take any useful photos... sorry about that.

Try adjusting the cluth rod longer so it pushes in deeper on the master and see if that helps at all. If it works and the clutch feels normal then I wouldn't worry about it.
Having that little spacer that seperates the slave from the bell housing shaved might also be the answer if this a real problem but as mentioned if others aren't having a problem then who knows. However with that said I've had some twin plate cars before and the clutch engagment never really felt great to me so maybe this is a problem that should be addressed and certainly with the throw out not extending as far the slave will have to extend further which could definitely be a problem in fully pulling the clutch back.

Ive got this exact problem, apart from being around the other side of the world and its also minus the twin plate and also the 20b.. I thought it was related to hydrolics yet it is not! All of it replaced.
I will attempt to extend the clutch rod first and report back. Giving me the *****. Its off to the mech on wednesday if it fails to fix it.
