for fuel management the stock ecu & pump is good to about 12psi and 360hp (fw) with stock or uprated twins - However it dosen't like singles (at any boost/hp rating) because the maps and control logic is designed for sequential twins - with an uprated pump and raising rate fuel pressure regulator (more pressure under boost) the stock ecu may go to 400hp

ummm....get your facts straight buddy. 360 flywheel hp = ~315 RWHP, and there is no possible way you can run 315 hp on a stock ECU. in order to reach 315 RWHP, youll need an intake, downpipe, cat back exhaust, upgraded IC, and a remapped ECU. most people who know what they arew talkin about say you need to get a new ECU after 2 intake/exhaust mods. RWHP wise, the max the stock ECU can go is about 260-265 RWHP. thats with an intake, dp, and cat back...and that is pushing it on the stock unit.

anyways....can someone answer my question??

do you need to go standalone if you wanna run upgraded twins? are you safe with a remapped ECU and modified fuel system??

thanks.

You don't absolutely need a standalone to run upgraded twins but to see the full potential you do. So unless you only want to make around 360 RWHP (We're talking safe RWHP) then you don't need it. Also, a programmable ECU will allow you to fine tune the car much better for drivability. If you're gonna do it then do it right.

I'm getting ready to rebuild my motor (not my choice, o-rings) and will street port it with future plans to go upgraded twins or a single, not decided yet and don't have the money to do all of it at once. I plan to switch from my M2 ECU to a Power FC so that I can grow into some of my planned mods for the motor rebuild (ported stock turbos, mid pipe, UIM and LIM manifolds ported, street port motor) and future upgrades.

I've seen a few cars with small single and a stock ECU that is chipped. Rotary Performance will do this, one of the cars here in the New Orleans Rx7 Club has the Apexi RX6 with an RP chipped ECU and an Apexi AFC for fine tuning the fuel, it made approx. 363 WHP. That's about max "SAFE" WHP you're gonna get with stock size injectors.

People using the EFI/Peter Farrel PMS have run larger injectors so you could probably do it but the limitation is that the larger injector ratio from primary to secondary must remain the same for a smooth transition b/t prim/sec (see Lightning in a World of Thunder web site section on fuel for more info on this). The money and time spent doing this aren't worth it with options like the Power FC and Haltech. A chip will never be perfect unless you sit there and burn multiple maps then run the car to test, all the chip burning would easily buy a programmable computer. You can't adjust a chip for changing ambient conditions.

Just to throw another variable in....

I was told last week that M2 has stopped selling the BB set because they were not getting the power they had hoped for. i.e. very little bang for the buck....

I would like to see what a place like Turbo Specialties could do with the stock turbos...

UH HUH... Heard the same from good source...stock twins are still the way to go to be "streetable" sure T78/88 51K's are nice..but the power is too late(for everyday stuff). The only dyno chart(single) I really liked was max cooper's single..That has the power down low.. The only thing I really hate about the stock twins is when you are highly modded the second turbo can break you loose if you are not ready for it..
