upgraded shift select spindle

Where exactly in the transmission is this located? I plan on upgrading this but have no clue where it is. I have an aftermarket short shifter...I don't think its in the shifter. Someone please just give me any info on upgrading this. If you could point me to a write up that would be great. Thanks

Not sure if the upgrade is the spindle, or the spring over it that helps keep the shifter out of 5th on the 2nd to 3rd toss. Makes 5th require intent to get it over there. Short shifter with fresh bushings will help with 5th gear miss as well...

Found this after 30 seconds of search, btw. I know you know, all the more reason... now I suck!!

It's not "in" the transmission, more accurately it's located "on" the extension housing just below your shifter. Page J-29 in the FSM has a picture (#11). I ordered one from Malloy when I did my 5th gear synchro and installed it while the transmission was out, but I'm pretty sure you can RR it without dropping the tranny. You'll just have to drain the fluid in the shifter housing below where it bolts on and be careful with the gasket. Although it comes as an assembly, I think the only difference was in the spring, and you will only get the upgraded one. I don't recall the exact price, but don't think it was too expensive.

If it can be disassembled, it would be great if someone could take it apart and measure the new spring. Then cheapasses like me could just replace the spring and save $50
