Update on my Independent Twin Turbos

It's been coming along slowly, but it's coming along. I got the downpipes fitted and the turbos are test fitted in the car with the proper clocking. I've got to work out the oil feeds and drains as well as the coolant lines, and we'll be ready to go.

If you're wondering what this is all about, see

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/joy-elation-prototyping-independent-twins-%5Bpics%5D-341531/

Other things are still pending, like that darn wiring harness. :P

I'm wondering about the big difference in header length.

Me too, equal header length (or close) is something that i've heard was a plus.

Looks awesome, however I have always been told that a single turbo is the most effecient. Produces more power, easier to maintain, and I can't imagine these would spool much faster, half the size with half the exhaust.

On the other side if you just wanted to do something different, it looks really nice.

Wrong, you are just thinking about the stock twin turbos. They produce excess heat and are problematic..

I'm doing a similar project with custom TEC turbos. Together the two smaller turbos i will be using outflow the huge single on Reactive racings Race car, which made ~ 900 HP :O, and will spool faster to boot.

Ill get some pics going as well, my manifold will be close to equil lenght, it is almost impossible to get it perfect with the space limitations

i'm gonna be using t3/t4 turbos loosely based off a r-85...lol i should make my own thread already!

Great custom work, I love how clean the job/welding is done. Yeah, what wastegates are you using? Turbos don't look like they have an internal wastegate, but at the same time I don't see an external wastegate opening on the manifold. Fill us in.

I love it, I plan to do GT25/28's down the road with my car -- I love the way your project is coming along.

Yes, I cant wait to see the piping, if done right its gonna look SICK! Definately motivation for the twinlovers.

I'm using the internal wastegates. The outlet flanges are those trick CNC machined flanges with internal wastegate pockets. The most difficult part of this whole operation is going to be making the wastegate actuator(s) fit.

Yes, I do wonder about the unequal length... but I'm really not that concerned about it. I just want to drive my car again!

Just say te header was planned... it is a self-contained sequential configuration.

I was wondering coulded you use the SR20DET tubo downpipe, they fit the TB25 with provision for the wastegate

Sure, but you're going to end up cutting the flanges off to make them point the right direction - you're better off finding yourself some T25 flanges, some SS piping, and a good welder.

This might be a stupid question but are these going to run sequentially somehow or are they parallel. If its parallel then why not put a big single on there and be done with it.

Because two smaller turbos typically spool more quickly than a single turbo capable of providing similar cfm.

Finally someone in support of this project. I love it, cant wait to see that baby on the road. BTW, please post a very detailed post on your actuatior construction and design. Thats the only aspect thats keeping me from heading in this direction.

??? There are no actuators on a parallel twin setup. The external wastegate(s) control boost, and both turbos are spooling all of the time.

Jim, I think he means the wastegate acutators. That's something that's going to be a bit of a challenge - it looks like I'll probably use one pressure can (perhaps one of the stock ones) and a nice machined piece to connect both gates to the can. I'll get some work done on that later on.
