unorthodox pulley nightmare

http://reganrotaryracing.tripod.com/unxhoror.htm Anybody had this problem instaling this pulley? The reason I ask is because I was replacing my clutch and flywheel and it seem like a good time to install it, since a was able to look the flywheel. Now I'm scare to start the car Is there any way to check if everything is in place without taking front cover off? Thanks in Advance

damn, i read the link and that sounds terrible. i was going to take all the pullys off to powder coat them, but now i'm considering leaving the main pully alone. it makes sense that it would throw off the internals. i have no idea how you would be able to tell if it was installed correctly.

Not really a way you can tell i'm afraid my friend... Its just one of those things. Normally (and i say "normally") the bearing stays in place, its kind of clamped loosley by its races - however, knock it in the wrong way or pull the pulley around a bit too much as you remove it and it can fall down...

Start the car and place your palms together

FWIW, the newer design Unorthodox pulley does not require hub removal.

yup:

Although not from installing a pulley... The previous owner rebuilt the engine and apparently didn't use loctite on the front eccentric shaft bolt... causing it to remove itself on the highway.

^ Woaw ! Thanks for the replies guys! Look what I found http://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/pulley.htm I guess I didnt do enough searching. The only hope I have is that the eshaft didnt turn at all (used impact gun ) ,but it moved back a bit when replacing the oil seal. Iam going to check the play after installing the flywheel as mazdatrix mentions in the link above. Wish me luck!

There is a way to tell if the bearing is out of place without removing the front cover .Just read the book ,the measurment you are looking for is 2.44 mm if I remember correctly . This is the step between the eccentric shaft and the outer edge of the pulley hub .
