Under hood pannel, Is it useful or its made to burn ?
Was cruising on the hightway yesterday, at 60mph, did a litle 60-120, let off throtle and realized it was smelling some king of burned plastic.
Poped the hood, everything looked normal.... a litle wind fliped my under hood pannel, then realized it was burned !!!! the wind at 120mph pulled the pannel on the engine and burned.
I took a platic "clip" from an other corner and cliped it so it would hold for the way back home.
So my question : is this pannel useful ? like protecting the hood's paint from heat.
should i throw it away so it would be -1 on burning things under my hood?
Thanks in advance

It is made to come off in an event of a fire, it will drop to your engine and suppose to kill the fire or slow down the burning but in most cases does not work that way, it is also suppose to protect the paint of your hood from the heat of the engine...I took mine off when running the stock hood since it was peeling too, never had problems with the paint...

Mines been missing since I bought the car. It's not really pretty without it...but then neither is the insulator. IIRC they're a bit expensive...even before shipping costs. I wish I knew of alternatives...I've contemplated making my own but never got around to it.
Like KaiFD3S, I've never had paint problems with stock twins, but can't speak for the single turbo owners.

It's not so much of a problem if you don't have the precat, since those things are a big source of unwanted heat. I mainly see it being a problem if you have a big single or are driving pretty hard. Summit Racing sells a liner that has a reflective lining on it to keep the hood cooler for about $60. Here's a link to it http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku. I'm thinking about getting one of those it's not really that expensive and seeing how well it works since I don't have a liner.
