Ultimate gauge solution

so you dont feel like putting in the pods like me? Well here is a neat idea

materials:

blitz dc gauge (very thin)
home depot suction cup
1/2inch wide 14 gauge metal strip

its easy to fab up and looks great IMO.

The other problem "I see" (no pun intended), is that you'll constantly be having to switch your line of sight from the instrument cluster....^^^ up to the elevated gauge(s). Not a very safe thing to do while in the process of operating the vehicle.

Doesn't really look bad,... until you run into a group of pedestrians leaving the Church.

As long as that suction cup hold it up there you'll be fine.
I just dont like the Idea of the wires sticking out like that.

No offense, but I think that's a ****-poor setup. The a-pillar or center-speaker pods are much safer and easier to view (and better looking).

I agree. Not to bash on your idea, but this looks much worse than a gauge pod setup (at least with that, you can make it look stock with a steering column pod). It looks REALLY out of place, and I am sure it does not look good from the outside.

I kind of like it. It certainly isn't going to make any difference whether you look up or down at your gauges, so thats not a factor. Radar detectors are legal, so you won't get pulled over because of that. I seriously doubt that it is illegal as someone stated earlier.

How about posting a pic from the outside?

yeah i dont know how it could be called illeagle. The gauge is really non-obtrusive... I guess i would need a straight on pic to show that, from the front you cant see the wire at all.

My decal on the top of the winshield hides the suction cup from the outside

I looked into the a-pillar gauges and they all looked really cheesy to me. That and taking from a spot you need to be able to see while turning.

and as for the looking in two places for gauges, you would have to do that with anything besides the one center mount on the steering column.

either way i still like it and get lots of compliments on how it looks

last but not least, the suction cup hasent moved or needed to be resuctioned in the year its been up there.

edit: like i mentioned about the decal, you cant see it from outside the car. Ill try and take a pic from the rear tomorrow with the hatch up so you can see how it sits in the car.

after rereading this thread it seems alot of people think i have to take my eyes off the road more than any other location to look at the gauge... i can say with alot of expierence that checking the gauge in the spot on the winshield is alot less taxing than looking at one in the dash.

Who in the hell has ever gotten pulled over for having fuzzy dice? No one, because they are legal! Same with Radar detectors. Except for in crappy states like Virginia. At least he is trying something new. Someone strays from the cookie cutter plan of how to mod an FD and every flames like crazy. Dude, if it works for you there, keep it there. Hell, I doubt it's any higher than the top A-pillar pod on three guages setups.

I was thinking the same thing.. Doesn't look too bad at all. Beats a squared off - snowplow bodykit any day. As long as it's not out of your field of vision, it should work fine. FUNCTION over fashion. I have my gauges in the DIN panel and to be honest, looking at them WHILE driving isn't very easy at all. Damn near dangerous.

IMO, I think it's fine.

However, if you intend to suction a row of gauges up there, that would be bad IMO.

HAHAHA...I'm from VA...and Northern VA at that. Home of THE WORST county to get pulled over in: Fairfax County. Radar detectors aren't just illegal, the 5-0 here have radar detector detectors...im dead serious. I have my V-1 mounted where XSTransAm has his gauge...right above the rear view. And let me tell you, every now and then, it gives that weird triple beat, letting you know you just got hit by a radar detector detector, and it stops detecting (gotta love that V-chip they have in there).
