the issue I am having is after idling for a a few minutes warm it will start smoking, then smoke worse and worse, grey smoke eventually turning blue
idle A/F is around 12.5-12.8, no cats. stock twins,run at 10 psi, the PVC breather is just open, and not connected to the intake( to prevent oil coming from there)

this was the original problem I had several years ago, and I ended up testing the car out with a header, and has no smoke,
I tried several sets of used twins, all to no avail, had them rebuilt by a shop, and did not have smoke for a few years, then it slowly started smoking again after long idle periods.


I have recently tried a couple promising set of used twins again , and tan looking no evidence of oil leakage, and they still do the same thing smoke at idle.

anyone have an ideas what to check?
is there any kind of oil feed restrictor in the hard line coming from the front iron?

 

Have you checked your oil injectors? I had one that stuck once and it would just dump oil into one chamber and had similar symptoms to yours. Once I replaced them, the smoke disappeared. Simple place to start.

also I tried with oil cap off no difference so not pcv issue

 

so I pulled the upper and checked the oil injectors w/o removing them, u can blow into them, but not suck out of them, so the 1 way valve seems to work properly....

 

are you premixing?

 

no just using the factory omp

 

I had the same problem a couple years ago and went crazy trying to find out what was wrong. When I had the engine stripped down for a rebuild one of my oil control rings was totally mangled...

 

I'm going to pull the turbos off and put a header on the car and see if it smokes still... last time I did this a few years back there was no smoking at all NA

I had a smoking issue and what is turned out to be was the banjo bolt for the oil feed to he twins was leaking causing smoke to come out the engine bay. Tightened and it went away.

Another issue was the catch can/pcv setup wasn't working correctly allowing pressure to build in the oil pan eventually causing oil to go past the seals in the turbines causing a smokescreen upon decel. Fixed the crankcase ventilation and smoking went away.

 

Run the car without the turbos and see if it smokes. Make sure you loop the coolant lines and plug the oil feed. Have a fire extinguisher handy.

The stock twins are generally not considered rebuildable. The housings distort because of the excess heat they trap, so when you put new seals and bearings in they don't sit true, and fail prematurely. Either find a known good set of better yet upgrade to something the BNR stage 3s, 99 twins, or SP twins. I sell all of them.
