Twins to Single = different intercooler??

Hi I'm at the point where I don't think I can go further without upgrading the intercooler. I've been browsing all the different ones out there and pretty much all of them are specified for either your stock twins or single turbo upgrade. I don't know how long my stock twins are going to last (they're running very strong at 60k) so I don't want to buy one now and have to change it again when I go single (someday). Are there any intercoolers out there that are compatible with both (or modify the pipings to work with both)?? Thanks.

Sorry if the answer should be obvious but I honestly don't know...

almost all the piping for the intercoolers is the same. its mostly what u want a SMIC or FMIC. if you do a lot of stop and go or into dragracing u are better off with a FMIC. if you are mostly traveling on highway and plan on road racing/tracking the car then u are most likely better off with a SMIC. for smic one of the best ones are available from www.m2performance.com and www.crookedwillow.com and the FMICs are basicly everwhere, check out the rx7 store and
stock turbos being at 60k or so should not be really beat up, considering the car was properly cooled down after boosting...
intercooler is an important upgrade on these cars considering the stock one heat soaks pretty quickly, go into boost a few times pull over quickly and you will notice how hot the intercooler is, you will most likely not be able to touch it.

with FMIC, I can keep my water temps around 80 Celsius according to my PFC. This was when I had a STOCK radiator.

thanks for all the replies! I definitely want FMIC since I don't plan to track/roadrace my car. So you're saying that I can just pick any front mount and I'd still be able to use it when I go single??
