Your best bet is to rebuild them both while you have them off.

hey..i had a set of turbo city rebuilds...they lasted one full startup and run before leaking all over the shop floor.

they are notoriously bad with their turbos and at one point were sued by a shop in southern california to recoup losses caused by having to constantly replace bad sets. turbo city lost and had to pay for the labor costs to that shop.

the last time i was there...the technician told me they were no longer going to do the rebuilds in house and that he hates working with the rx turbos. he said they were too hard to get them right. simple as that.

there are two shops that i know of that are proving to do a good job with the rebuilds right now. one is BNR Supercars and the other is TEC in colorado.

i had two bad sets of rebuilds before i learned my lesson. stay away from the idea if you can.

I like the idea of making a ceramic coating a standard offering.. Differentiates the product offering a bit too. Question is if that is ceramikrome, will it support the turbo temperature? Black Satin is supposidly able to support a higher temperature and made by same company.

http://www.thinair-usa.com/Ceramic.html#ExhaustSys

Looks like I'll be in the market for some new turbos soon and will likely go with an upgraded turbo. Would be great if someone had a comparison of the various approaches with pros/cons.

See I know BNR has a 1 year warranty vs. others, but seeing how I only drive my car on occasion, it would be great to get the warranty in mileage equivalant to 1 year (say 15,000 miles).

BI State customs has set the price of their upgraded 400HP + twin turbos at $1,599 plus good core. The upgraded turbos that BI State is offering are comparable to the BNR Stage 3 turbos that they offer. This is what the BI State Customs upgraded twin turbos come with.

-Turbine housings are modified for increased air flow
-Turbine Wheels Clipped
-Both secondary and primary compressor turbine wheels are upgraded
-Specially modified thrust bearing for increased lubrication and longer life
-Units are completely digitally balanced
-Ported Wastegates
-Units will be fully rebuilt

Our twin turbo upgrade is comparable in the power they put out. Maybe you didn't see my repl last night. Here I will post it for you once again.

Our seals are based off a carbon seal but the garrett engineers refer to them as a rebuildable dynamic/carbon design which, they suggest for our particular application. Nasayers will often criticize the design but until they prove their Garrett engineering credentials I will leave it up to the current engineers I deal with.

That's all I would like to discuss about our seals for now.

Thank you

BI State customs phone number is 618-234-0069. They don't have a website up yet. We have good extra cores with no cracks here if you need one rebuilt.

They come with a 1 year/15K mile warranty. Which ever comes first.

Nah, I saw the post. I was basically saying that they arent fully dynamic seal converted.

Are you still running the stock shafts? If not, I'm sure you dont want to say what you are running but I'd be interested to know if you are using stock or not? Its not listed in your list of upgrades you perform to them so I'm thinking your still running the Hitachi cartridge. If thats the case you pretty much have to run carbon seals, you cant run dynamic seals without re designing the internals and making custom parts like BNR has done. Which is I'm sure why they told you to run carbon seals. There are no parts manufactured to fully convert them to dynamic seal. BNR hand makes all his own parts to convert them.

I'm not saying this to knock down your turbos, I'm just trying to give everyone a clear understanding that they are not the same as the BNR turbos. When you say they are comparable then people are going to think they are the same.

We really find there is no reason to convert the seals over. The major differance in the two is the dynamic seal has a very very very slight amount of less drag. Less than .0100 measured Ft/Lb which which is unnoticeable.
