Angry Turbo Troubleshooting: Charge Control Valve

Quick run down - I removed the UIM over the weekend trying to track down a boost problem. I replaced all the check valves and checked all the hoses and they were fine.

I hooked the car up to a diagnostic computer which returned no error codes - so solenoids are good.

Put everything back together and still having very very slow boost response....sometimes no boost at all when I put my foot down.

I took a look this morning at the charge control valve when I started the car. From past experience I know that the actuator rod is meant to be 'on' or pulled in. However this was not the case here so I have a feeling I'm on to something.

Any ideas?

Just FYI, that just means you have continuity through each solenoid. That doesn't mean the solenoids are working properly.

Can you explain a little better what your problem is? When you do get boost, what's your boost pattern? Even if the CCV was failing, you should have some secondary boost.

Oh I see I'll probably test solenoid next time I have it off.

I don't have a boost gauge hooked up but when I WOT most of the time I get no boost at all (as if I'm driving N/A) BUT if I let go of the gas then slam it down again sometimes I get full boost as well as the secondary coming online perfectly to redline.

That sounds more like a TCA (Turbo Control Actuator) problem than a CCV problem, IMO.

Ok I've taken her out for another drive and it seems boost comes on around 4000+ rpm only.

Anything before this and its like driving an N/A.

we need alittle more info like boost pattern. That would help alot better. I came across a lot of boost problems myself so more info would be good. did you change anything to the car besides the check valves.

also did you check out these sites yet?

Ok, then that does sound like a possible CCV issue. I would start with testing the Charge Control solenoid, and then if the checks out, check the valve to see if it might be sticking.

I have the EXACT same problem. I replaced a solenoid and tightened up some vacuum lines, still NO BOOST except around 4500rpm SOMETIMES. Tested my Charge Control, not working at all. I just purchased the new part, let you know how that goes, but just wanted to give you some advice and let you know you arent alone. Ha

Check to see if you have boost going to that charge control valve as it should be closed from 0-4500. If you dont i would start checking solenoids and vacuum lines. I havent been beyond that, and im hoping i wont have too!!

I'm pretty certain its a dead solenoid and/or vac line to the CCV.

Let me know how you go.

Installed that valve about 3 weeks ago, AMAZING difference. I went from like 0 boost to full boost. Dont know if your problem is the same, but its not an expensive fix if you want to give it a shot. I bought mine for 15 bucks with 12,000 on the part. I even saw one on the forum recently for 30 bucks with 1000 miles on it. Good luck by the way, let me know how it goes.
