Turbo Simplification and CA Smog
Turbo Simplification and CA Smog
I don't know if this has already been answered, sorry if I didn't search well.
Anyways, like the obvious topic, does the turbo simplification (removing pressure regulator, secondary air bypass & system, double-throttle, and egr affect a smog test? Say I left the items still connected (currently have egr installed but solenoid bypassed) but removed the hoses and stuff, would that affect the actual emissions? Has anyone passed a smog test with the turbo simplification?
I passed with the EGR bypassed, but what about the other things the simplification removes?

You may run in to a problem trying to remove the other stuff - that all controls how the air control valve works. The ACV controls where air pump air goes - into the exhaust manifold, into the cat, or out to atmosphere.
EGR should not be a problem, as long as the valve is there and the tech can do a visual on it. It mainly reduced NOx emissions, and combustion chamber temps during the test probably aren't getting hot enough to form NOx. Hell, the '95 RX-7's didn't have EGR valves at all

You will NOT pass smog without a fully-functioning ACV. You might be able to remove the ACV and run a line all the way from the airpump to the main cat, but it has never been tried and you might end up overheating your cat or something like that.
