Turbo rebuilding price?

Hey guys!
I pull out my stock twin 3weeks ago and took it to the local turbo rebuilding shop,TEC. That time I brought them three sets of stock twin. My idea was that I could save some money out of usable parts. after 3weeks, the guy said that all the parts are trash, especially exhaust turbine side of cores are damaged except one. So, they are rebuilding one set of turbo with my one usable core and their core. However, he quote me a price of $1,795 for that. they are going to use my compressor wheels and turbine wheels and compressor cores.

Before they said that they charge $700 for rebuilding with rebuildable core and extra parts with extra cost. So, this means that one extra exhaust side core cost more than $1,000?

My question is that their price is reasonable?

I want to hear your opinion.
anybody has this kind of experience?

Thank you in advance!

That's way too much for a stock rebuild.

The hard part of that is USABLE CORE. There are almost no usable cores left in the US as Mazda will not sell the turbine housings as a separate part. Most housings with any miles on them ARE trashed. You can get away with beat up housings with a non-sequential setup but not a sequential.

I'm pretty much going with brand new 99-turbos instead of the BNR Stage 3s because of lack of usable cores -- mine were absolutely toasted at 85k miles.

I would never pay $1800 for rebuilt stock turbos. No way, no how. If you can find a decent set of housings, have Bryan build you a set of Stage 3s for $2300. Either that or get new 99s or new stockers for about $2500.

You can also try to find fairly low mileage twins for sale on the forum, they do come up now and then and usually sell for under $400. Just be sure to get good pics of the turbine housings to make sure the cracks aren't irreparable.
