Turbo Precontrol Actuator Adjustment

I've been reading about how adjusting the precontrol actuator rod helps with the pre 4500rpm transition and prevents the zero boost below 4500 after a full throttle run problem, which I've been having, but I'm having a little trouble. For those of you that have done this fix, any tips on how to turn the threaded end? It's pretty stuck on mine, so I've let some wd40 soak into it since last night and plan on messing with it again this weekend. Should I try grabbing the smooth part with pliers to get some resistance in turning it? Can I damage the actuator??

Thanks!

If you notice, the actuator has a 4angled section on it. You can grab a small wrench, and it will easily fit on it, or grab it with some pliers. For the rod end, it too has an angled end. Well, it does on mine :p. Same thing. Get a small wrench and turn it with it.

It is the turbo control actuator (stainless steel) that has the adjustment piece with the 4 flat surfaces.

The pre-control actuator piece is round with a crimped mark. After use and being rusted, it usually can not be adjusted. To increase it's tension, use thin washers between its mouting bracket and the #1 turbo housing to which it attaches. You can also change the pill size to slightly delay or speedup the engagement of the actuator.

Ahhh...so despite what the manual says, the actuator actually *is* removable from the turbo unit! I thought it was highly illogical to make the whole bloody thing one piece so I was worried that if I had snapped the rod, I would have to replace the entire frickin' turbo unit.

Thanks for the info! I'll try removing the actuator first and messing with the threads, and if that doesn't work, the washer at the mounting should work just fine. Thanks again!

before you do all that, take the rod off the doorr hinge to see if it is out of adjustment or not.

Yeah I did that already, and it is perfectly lined up from what I can tell, which is why I wanted to shorted it a little.

hey guys... I'm getting a loss of boost at the higher rpm.
I know it is not a ignition problem. I want a consistant
14 - 15 psi of boost.

My wastegate has been slightly ported... but at 6000 rpm I get 14 psi
by 7500 rpm I get 12 psi.

I hear no hissing noises at all either. Can my wastgate not be shutting closed at the higher rpm?. Will shortening the pre-control rod fix this?
