Turbo Precharger - what do you guys think?

Hi guys,

Was cruising the net, and came across an interesting gadget. Have you guys heard of this item http://www.dieselproducts.com/turbosafe/turbosafe.html and do you think it would have good application on an FD?

Sincerely,

Rob

I wouldent worry about that to much, the turbo's outlast the engine half of the time. The only real time the turbo's might not get oil is if you have a leak or a bad pump, both of which would ruin the whole car. Im not to sure what "it" does exactly. The site sucks

EDIT:

so apperently its a startup oil injector. which is not really needed. In the 2-5 seconds your car is starting your oil pump is already working. And considering your turbo dosent spin untill the engine actually starts. there is nothing to worry about.

There will be a period where the oil pump is getting started and filling the lubrication system with oil. It might take, I dunno, a second or two or five to get oil flowing through the turbo bearings, where you might argue they are 'starved'. However, there is usually some residual oil there and the loads are very low. Running a very thin oil might create problems here, which is why I only run 20w-50 in my FD.

Just give the car a few seconds to warm up - I don't know anyone running a fancier system than stock to handle this "problem".

Yeah, Ive never noticed a problem with that, I also run 20-50 works wonders. While I was still in the process of finshing my project I noticed it takes about 2-4 for pressure to show up on my Defi guage. I usually show around 20psi of pressure while cranking.

Even if there is not a whole lot of oil at the first ~5 seconds of your engine running, the turbo's are not spining that fast, at least not enought to cause any problems for the bearings.
