Turbo Heat Shields

I'm strongly considering leaving the heat shields off when I install my new turbos. They are in pretty bad shape. They are rusted and the inner layers are actually starting to crumble and fall out. My 7 is not my daily-driver (weekend, fair-weather only) so would it be an issue to just leave them off?

Are you talking about the heat shield that covers the precat? I took mine off after installing a dp.

I know some people who run without them (and I won't be putting mine back on). You might experience some extra under-hood temps without them but it won't really cause any harm. The main issue will be anything around it since there will be nothing to help block the heat generated by the turbos.

No, I'm talking about the heat shields that screw/bolt to the turbos. There has been a few topics and debates on whether to take the shields off or leave them on.
Mazda put them on the car for a reason
If they weren't needed, Mazda wouldn't have installed them
Well, I think this would be true if the car was be driven as Mazda intended... on a daily basis. I'm just trying to find out what, if any, issues would this cause.

a weekend warrior tends to see HIGER temps due to harder driving. You get a bit more spirited and the turbos work harder, and as such, create more heat. keeping things from getting cooked is the key to longevity and less underhood gremlins.
