Question Turbo heat shield needed?

I just had Kevin at Rotary Resurrection rebuild my engine. The Turbo heat shield and the exhaust manifold heat shield were in pretty bad shape corrosion wise. Are these things really necessary? Anyone have any good or bad expiriences running without replacing them?

They will rust, they are not stainless. Every little bit helps, especially with twins and stock hood. I had mine heat coated as well as the exhaust manifold. They will charge a lil extra to clean them though. Some shops leave them out only becuase they are a pia to reinstall.

Thanks GoRacer! Sounds like I ought to buy a new one. I do have a stock hood setup.

I would think you could get a good used set in the For Sale/Wanted section for a heck of a lot less than new.
