Tuning/Engine Management Advice
Hi all,
I'm hoping to get my FD back on the road in a week or two or three
With all the work that I've been doing I assume I'm going to need some sort of engine management unit.
The spec of the car when its ready for testing will be:
3" exhaust right through, (I'm thinking of ditching the cat and getting a midpipe)
Simplified vacuum setup. (Airpump eliminated)
Stock intake
I'm not looking for silly high power, literally reliability and I guess a little more go.
Is there any point in me keeping the stock CAT or will I be better off with a midpipe? (No emission laws over here for JDM FDs)

I did the same thing, 3" pipe from the turbos back with a HKS Ti muffler and a ARC air box. Car runs great but I noticed that I was having boost spikes up around a 1 bar(14psi) and when stock is what .7 bar. I was told that to stop the high spikes and boost creeping that i would need to slow the exhaust down by putting on a cat or just put in a standalone. And if I didn't I was going to run it too lean and POP. So I went with a Haltech.

If u have removed the airpump mate u gonna have a lumpy idle with the standard ECU , but as long as u keep the standard CAT u will be fine running like this. ( and most be people run there cars fine like this until they are ready to do more mods)
If u want to remove the main CAT u gonna open a nice chunk of power but also u gonna open a can of worms,,,, there will be no more restriction in the exaust so the turbos tend to spike really bad and boost creep can go off the scale,,,, both very bad things to happen on a standard ECU (engine go BANG BANG),,,, so u will need a boost controller and probably need to port the turbo wastegates and buy and aftermarket ECU if u want to remove the CAT.

I'm thinking of going with a PFC, am I right in my thinking that it also acts as a boost controller?
I am not looking for insane power, getting the car to 250-280 would do me fine, at the moment I can't afford to buy an upgraded fuel pump so want to keep it simple

I really wanted to make sure the stock ECU would be ok with the simple turbo vacuum setup, the DP and the CAT Back.
PowerFC definitely in the future then
