Join a credit union and try to get them to finance it? But that would take a while..

they are gonna screw you anyway. Most use a special blue book for "special interest autos" which is what our aging FD falls under...and a good condition 93 values at 11.4K to them....as if there are a bunch of nice Fds with no problems for a measly 11.4...

Thumbs up

My father just was approved a loan (60 months, 6.5% interest) of $13.5k to purchase a 93 R1. I was pretty damn surprised--5 yrs for a ten year old car. It is through Pentagon Federal Credit Union--I think you have to be active/retired military to be a member, but you might want to do a search for their website and check them out.

take it easy--

I got my loan through www.PeopleFirst.com last year. They will loan up to www.kbb.com retail. This should be good enough to get a 93 in good condition. Last year they would loan me $17,400 for a 93 R1 with up to a 60 month loan.

I ended up having to go with a Personal loan from my bank. Most other loans didn't apply because of the age.

I tried a couple of credit unions and they quoted me ridiculous interest rates..

PeopleFirst.com will give you a loan for a '93 if you can get approved.

I hope it was a short term loan. Paying that much interest over an extended period of time is beyond overkill!

How come you had to pay that bad a rate? Even with lousy credit I would think it would peek around 15%?

I have good credit, but I'm kinda young (23) and don't have enough established credit to get a loan thru peoplefirst.com. I was pretty pissed, since my credit is actually really good.

For my RX7, I ended up getting a loan thru the dealership (Toyota Finance) for like 10%. Then I paid it off with a combination of 0% introductory credit cards till May 2003, and 7.9% on my GM Card. I guess it all worked out in the end.
