Trouble getting the waterpump pulley off
Hi guys,
I have spent an hour searching, and couldn't find the answer. My air pump broke the other day, so now I am trying to put a shorter belt around the water pump and alternator. There is another serpentine belt in the way however, so i need to take off the water pump pulley,so that I can get the other belt on behind it. I have been trying everything to get that pulley off. I tried holding one pulley with a wrench while trying to turn the waterpump one myself. I sprayed a ton of WD-40 on all the bolts, and that didn't help.
Any suggestions? Anything will help guys, I need this car running ASAP
Thanks

Have you tried loosening the Alternator, there is a screw right next to it, if you turn it it will loosen the tension on the belt and you will be able to take the belt off..you can aloso loosen the other belt with the screw close to the alternator bracket, it moves the PS tensioner up and down..

You don't need to take off a pulley to replace a belt.
The alternator, wp, airpump belt is tensioned both at the alternator and the airpump. The p/s and a/c belt is tensioned by the belt tensioner in the p/s pump bracket. Decrease tension, slip off old belt, slip on new belt, re-tension.
Also if you have a stock waterpump pulley, be prepared for a very small contact patch between the pulley and the belt if you're not using the airpump.

im in the same boat at ddagman. i just got an alternator/water pump pulley kit (to eliminate the air pump) both pulleys seem to be the same size, would contact area with the new water pump pulley be that much of a different if i just put the belt on and keep stock pulleys?

You will notice that you have a small contact patch since you have removed your airpump. Howard Coleman had an awesome post about the water pump pulley and slippage. Many non-airpump users buy aftermarket idler pulleys to increase belt contact with the water pulley. I bought mine from pineapple racing years ago and have had no issues.
Good luck.
