I get this strange rattling noise when I don't have the clutch down but it goes away when I press the clutch in. It kind of sounds like something is shaking around under the car. Happens at idle.
Can't really tell if it happens while driving but it does seem to make a whirring noise all the time while driving.

Could be many things.

Bad throwout bearing in the tranny
Bad shifter bushing or just loose shifter
Loose/cracked ppf
Bad motor mounts.

 

It could also be worn tranny input shaft bearing.

 

When you drive around , do you see the shifter move around alot? like its practicing for a ballet ?

 

Would most of those causes be cureable by replacing the transmission? I figured repair might be more costly.
Unfortunate because my 5th gear goes in perfectly.

The shifter doesn't move around too much really. I like your comparison haha.
