transmission issues
I have the folowing problems with my 5spd...
1) growing noise sitting still no pressure on pedal. push in pedal noise goes away completely. its a bearing noise or something... whirring and loose sounding.
2) cold its hard to go into second and above. whne it warms up it gets a lot better.
3) now it seems that sometimes downshifting is getting rejected in third and forth. its happened too much to be all driver error kindof like an engagement issue.
i purchased this car a few months ago and the guy said it had a new clutch but i have to slip it a lot to keep from chattering and lurching. also it seems to prgress weekly a minor bit with the peadle related noise. i think that its either the front bearing on the trans or the throughout/pilot.
im thinking the flywheel isnt up top par, the clutch was bad, and i was told that the throwout bearing makes noise when you realease on the pedal and the trans main bearing with make noise when you apply pressure. IS THIS RIGHT? im getting a new clutch combo and am trying to decide if i should get another trans or look into doing some work to this one or will the new kit/some syncros will take car of my problems.
the fluid was dirty looking when i put my B&M shifter/new bushing in and ill change that to neo or ams oil.
any info is appreciated as always.

If the clutch is not smooth, plan on replacing it. And get the flywheel resurfaced too.
The bearing noise sounds like input shaft main bearing. Many growl like this (clutch out, in neutral) when cold. IMHO, as long as the sound goes away when the tranny warms up and gets the fluid circulated, it's only annoying. Note that this noise should not sound any worse than steel rollers rolling - if it's gritty sounding or something I would take it much more seriously. To change this bearing means tranny rebuild.
The hard shifting isn't as easy to pin down. Change the gear oil first and see what that does for you. I suggest a true GL-4 oil in 75w-90, such as Redline MT-90 or Amsoil MTG. A GL-5 is more demanding on the synchros, and if your synchros aren't great (which is possible per your symptoms) using a GL-4 will help.

cool. thanks for the info. i think i may just put the exedy or ACT in it and some lube and see what happens. i didnt know if this tranny you could take just the front cone off or a whole rebuild. i'll see what happens and then try to find another or just go with the greddy 6spd conversn... lol, yeah right.
