Transmission... Hum
Transmission... Hum
I bought a 93 r1 yesterday http://members.***.net/goodbarsix/fd1.JPG and today i am rolling backwards a little bit and launch it at 6k and the car goes snap! and dont move. Long story short, i pulled out the tranny and the back part out the shaft about 6 inches in from the yoke snapped. Should i buy a new transmission or get the one i have rebuilt (and fix the 5th gear synchro) and how much would it cost you think?

A rebuild will be quite expensive, since the shafts will cost several hundred dollars alone.
I would consider buying a rebuild box or maybe a low-mileage JDM tranny that has the lower 5th ratio. The latter is a higher risk, but if you buy from a reputable importer I wouldn't hesitate.

First of all, in spite of your beginnings, congrats on your car. PM me sometime and we can meet up.
You can check the "Parts for sale" section of the forum for used transmissions, but it's hard to be sure what your getting, shipping is expensive, and like the above example, many will still have the synchro problem. You could also post in the Midwest section that your looking for one within a reasonable driving distance. If you have a reliable shop in mind for a rebuild, that might be preferable, although to go completely through the transmission might be pricey. Some figures I heard thrown around......~$1500-$2000.
