Transmission and Clutch Problem

1993 FD with ~ 50,000 miles on the transmission, original clutch

Problem 1
When idling, in neutral , clutch out, a noisy bearing like sound is emitted (more apparent when the A/C)
When idling, in neutral, clutch in, the transmission is completely silent

Any ideas? I'm thinking it's a noisy release/thrust bearing but I am not entirely sure

Problem 2
Accelerating from a stand still is fine except when in 5th gear under wide open throttle, the car suddenly accelerates between 2,500RPM and 3,500PM (I think it's around 10-12PSI boost on the primary turbo). The speedo does not reflect the acceleration and I suspect the original clutch is worn and also not holding well since I have done some upgrades to engine.

Is this definitely a worn clutch? I think so also if that is the case would it fix problem 1 as well? because of the new thrust bearing etc.

All of the synchro's are in good working order as well - the transmission has been treated like gold

The following has been done to the car, not sure how much of an increase in HP but this may have a direct correlation on the clutch wear.

List:
Upgraded Efini 2001 Twin Turbo's (14PSI primary and 12PSI secondary with the downpipe configuration), Piggy back ECU upgrade (with relevant configuration), JEC fuel pump, RB down pipe, RB high-flow cat.

Also I have 18" 9.5"s at the back so there is very little lost in terms of spinning the wheels which could place more strain on the transmission..

Any input would be appreciated, if it's the clutch what is a good cheap relacement performance clutch?

Thanks!

Yea, you are beyond the limits of the stock clutch. The noise sounds like the throw-out bearing. You should get a new one when you purchase a clutch kit.

Most people with similar mods in the USA use the ACT Street/Strip clutch. Being in Australia, you might check to see what the local guys are using as they might have access to some products which are harder for the USA guys to come across.
