Transmission bottom cover (shield) ?

I was looking at the factory service manual (FSM) and it shows a sheet-metal cover or fairing mounted below the transmission.

I don't believe my car ever had one (I've owned it since new).

Therefore, does anyone have an opinion on whether this cover is useful and worth having?

Thanks.

I think it's primarily there to help with underbody aerodynamics. I don't know if there would be a noticeable difference with it there or not, to tell you the truth. My car didn't come with it either - it's on my To Get list .

Thanks, Dale.

Another question: did any FD's actually come with this?

I do believe they all came with them stock. Lazy mechanics are the key reason your car may not have one .

Yes, all of them are supposed to have them. My guess would be the same as DC, lazy mechanics.
