Tranny Replacement
I need to replace my 93 TT 5 speed tranny. The thing was previously abused, and makes noise (kind of grinding while riding in 4th), and the 1-2 and 2-3 syncro are shot from mis shifts from previous owner. I want to either get it rebuilt by KD, or try to find a low mileage used one. Has anybody got any good news for rebuilt ones, and how much would either go for. Thank you for your time.

I had mine rebuilt by Pettit for about $1000. Mine had similar problems which stayed fixed for a year or so. Seems that some are creeping back (shifting 2nd too fast grinds and neutral to 5th grinds). Perhaps I just can't shift right. It was kind of a pain shipping it back and forth from FL to DE. I think if I had it to do all over again, I may have ponied up the 2k+ for a new transmission. Then I wouldn't have anything to bitch about(since I seem to want the trans to be perfect). You have to replace a lot of parts to get an old trans to feel as tight as a new one.
Since I've heard good things about KD Rotary, I might be willing to take it there if the price was right. The labor to pull and reinstall the trans can run $400.
