Question tranny fluid buy 2L or 3 L ? searched... can't find

guys,

i've searched my question... i found only for diff fluid is being answered. which is 1.4 Quarts, where it'll be definitely be 2L purchase..

i know that tranny fluid is 2.5L as per the Service Manual. but generally gear oil is being sold by Litre...i can't buy 0.5L...

i do know as well we should pour until it overflows at the filler plug. i just don't want to have an extra 0.5 L stay over my store for months or year.

does anyone know what's the exact amount being poured into the tranny? will it be definitely more than 2 L ? if so i will need to stock those left overs...by purchasing 3L

oh yeah... Neo is not available in my country... i'm trying MT-90...was previously on some ordinary 75W90 which probably make my gear box not happy... i took them out and i put in a JDM year 99 model onwards gear box... reason.. it has less year than mine which is 93 possibly less wear inside...

You mean 1.3 liters for the rear, right? So, what's 2.5 + 1.3?

3.8 ... so, buy 4 liters

There is absolutely nothing wrong with regular gear oil. Just because it costs more doesn't mean it's better or that you should change it less often.

MT-90 is as good as Neo IMO.

You'll have to buy 3L and scrap the extra. The manual says 2.8 qts, which is 2.65L. I don't understand why third of a bottle of gear oil creates so much trouble for you, but you definitely should not underfill the tranny.

i believe that synchromesh gear boxes need to use non sulfur type of tranny fluids. that's based on what i searched.

sulfur content in the fluids will increase the wear of copper parts in the tranny thus causing alot of noises and difficulty in shifting.

read about MT90 which is suitable for synchromesh type tranny giving it better protection, sulfur free, better coefficient of friction, improve shifting etc...

i hope this MT90 is as good as what they claimed and what all the other users claimed it to be.

While all this is true, I don't think it's a huge deal. Mazda spec'd GL-5 as acceptable in the original documentation, so I suspect the synchro materials are EP resistant. But I still like the MT-90 over other gear oils because of the lower coefficient of friction for the better synchro performance.

I've never noticed *any* difference between the good gear oils. I've used Neo, Redline, and Amsoil. I just figure if I'm spending $9/qt I should take a moment and select the most ideal one.

make sure to use the right holes to empty and fill the tranny, you don't need to touch the hex bolt at the top

It can, but if you're putting a lot more HP thru the diff than stock I recommend using a racing type gear oil with more EP additives. Redline Shockproof is a good option.

Reason being, too many EP additives doesn't work well in the tranny, but in a hypoid diff you want the most EP-loaded oil you can find.

the interesting part is that i bought 3 L of redline Mt-90..
went to the mechanic..... they say... normally it's 4 L... instead of 2.5L...
i'm short of 1 L.... but due to i know them long long time...
they add in 1 L of LSD grade oil for me without charging....

they don't want to mess up the good MT90 with some normal grade cheap tranny fluid

the result.... shifting is never been easier on cold... and no more gear miss....
