TPS/IDLE TIP... thanks Damian

while cruising Damian's TPS thread and hearing all the applause for Damian a scrap of a sentence jumped off the page...

"adjust the screw on the top of the throttle body so that it doesn't hold the butterflies open"

BINGO

like most modded FDs i have little remaining on my throttle body but the butterfly adj screw. and my idle refused to run below 1800-1900. having more important things to do i messed w it a bit and then just ignored it.

i did adj my VTA1 and VTA2 but w the idle screw advanced so the car would idle.

after backing the screw off (!) and resetting my TPS my car now idles properly.

whoopie and thanks Damian.

I'm worried my engine wouldnt idle without that pushed down a bit. Thats been the primary way I've messed around with my idle for years. Do you adjust the one on the bottom at all?

awesome, glad it helped!! :-)

seriously, there is some quirky but real satisfaction when the car idles as well as it should :-)

...at least for me :-)

go read my thread:

im kinda compulsive about my cars idle... and i can honestly say my street car (highly modded but stock engine) purrs like a kitty at idle, i boast that its arguably the best idle of any FD....stock or non-stock :-)

and im the same way with my track car, as modded/ported as it is, I still want it to idle well, and it does idle very well.... just loud :-)
