Torque Damper

Has anyone purchased a torque damper from ebay?

if so could you please post a pic of the installed torque damper?

Does the ebay torque damper require the same installation proceedure as the Garfinkle torque damper?

What I would be careful of is using a Torque Damper with possible worn engine mounts. Those eBay dampers just bolt through the side of the engine bay which is not all that secure. If the engine mounts are not in proper health, the side of the engine bay can bend and tear. There were pictures of this a few years ago. Garfinkle's brace uses a mounting block on the inside to prevent this from happening.

IMO, you shouldn't really need a torque damper until you start making around 320 or so rwhp. The engine shouldn't be shifting all that much at the lower power ranges. If it is, then its most likely a problem with something in the driveline.

For all you guys with the FEED or Ebay torque brace, does you brace hit or sit on-top of the abs bolt? Mine does and its hitting the hood insulation. I put some washers on the mounting plate to it wont bend while sitting on the bolt but its still seems wrong.

When I bought the car it came with an ebay torque brace. It hit the top of the ABS bolts. I ended up drilling new holes through the bracket that mounts on the side of the engine bay. This moved the brace enough to go between the ABS bolts.

I think it is waste of space under the engine bay however.

Wouldnt puting an angle on the damper cause stress and possibly bend it?
Also, how did u extend the damper so it reaches?

I'll see if I can take a picture of it to show you.

Pics of torque brace

Here are the pics.

First is a basic photo. You can see where the brace has been scored from running on the ABS bolts. It was this way when I bought the car.

View from the passenger side.

View from the drivers side. You can see where I put a washer there to move the brace forward slightly to help clear the ABS bolts.

This is a close shot of the bracket that mounts on the side of the engine bay. You can see that I've drilled three new holes in the bracket that the bolts are in. This moved the bracket forward and up slightly, just enough to clear the ABS bolts. The old holes are indicated.

Don't know if that helps at all.

My guess is that the ebay brace was designed on a RHD FD.
Here how I modded the fenderbracket to stop the damper from rubbing on the ABS unit:

Try the Garfinkle Engine torque brace .Some drilling but not a waste of space, it works as needed .

the ebay one works just aswell as the one designed by FEED, its the same thing. its a simple concept and doesnt require a hole lot of R&D, its a gas shock, plain and simple, pretty hard to mess that up. Not at all a waste of space.

i agree. i'd say, only a waste if plan on geting or already have a transmission brace

I considered putting another hole there as you did but wasn't sure if there would be enough material to be strong enough. Guess I was wrong.

I would like one. The only thing that is holding me back is the thought of mounting the bracket for it. I looked at the instructions and there were too many parts I had to remove to make me comfortable. As my skills improve I may tackle it.

The transmission brace made a huge difference in the shifting on my car. It was really surprising.

Improve you skills ,a young girl , a secretary in an office in Nashville installed one of my braces , how hard can it be , The job takes about two hours including flushing the brake system and bleeding .Something you should do every thirty months . Some install the unit without removing the ABS using an angle drill .

I don't think so, my guess is that there is just a piece of rubber in there.

It was the thought of removing the ABS unit that gave me pause. Still, I do like the Garfinkle Brace. I just flushed my brake lines last month. I think I'd like to either get speed bleeders for the next time. When I get more adventurous I may give the brace a try.

I have no problems admitting that a young female secretary from Nashville is a better mechanic than I am. I'll wager that just about anyone is a better mechanic than I am. I'm just old enough to be able to admit my own limitations.

Does it matter which way the damper goes? Im looking at all these pics and I noticed we all have it on different ways or the adjustments are on different sides

No. Either way is fine. I think we just put it on the way that fits around the ABS the best.
